The Process Monitor would not download, but I already had Process Explorer from Rossinovich, so I opened it and tried another Install. Hey - thanks to all you who offered help. I would suggest downloading Process monitor from sysinternals on technet and running it while doing the installation. There is the slight chance that the media is corrupted, especially since the error happens on both the files on your computer and from the CD.
Run Setup again from the original source disk or download location. Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not available. Regardless, thanks to both of you for your offered ideas. right now I feel cheated and I don't know where to go from here. I would seem to have an ideal platform for this software. Now I can only reflect that this is the only OS that has given me a problem like this one. Since then I have made a fairly successful effort to try to like it. I hated Vista when I first got this laptop for Christmas. It is ridiculous to go through all this grief and effort. Then I copied the data on the source DVD into a temp folder on my hard drive and executed setup.exe. Since my original post I have run CC Cleaner as well as the Installer Cleaner recommended above. In italics below is the only error message I get - the title on the message window is Setup Error - there is no error number. Please - I know this is commonly reported, but I can never find where someone gave feedback of a good result.
I have not yet done any of the following: Copied the source DVD to a drive folder and tried install from there - publicly renounced my love for the Cubs, and all other masochistic tendencies - pulled out the trusty Memory Mallet. Did find one folder remnant pertaining to PowerPoint - deleted that Using Search found neither any folders or files pertaining to the uninstalled productsĥ. Using Run, found Installers and looked for any relating to Office - found noneĤ.
Did un-install of MS Office Trial xxx?something Assistant using control panelģ. Did un-install of MS Office 2007 using control panelĢ. I will list the steps I have taken since as possible fixes encountered on other forums, etc. It would not install through autoplay - I got error message that a needed file was either corrupt or missing. I got Office 2007 Enterprise via college student license.
I have a new HP/Compaq laptop running Vista Home Premium it came with Office 2007 Home and Student in trial version.
